Bostik Simson ISR 70-05AP is a high-performance, silyl-modified polymer (SMP) elastic adhesive and sealant engineered for structural bonding and sealing in demanding transport, construction and marine environments.
It combines high tensile strength with permanent elasticity, making it ideal for elastic constructive joints that must withstand dynamic loads, vibration and movement without cracking or losing adhesion. ISR 70-05AP provides excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates including metals, painted and powder-coated surfaces, GRP, polyester, timber and many plastics, often without the need for a separate primer when the correct cleaning and preparation routine is followed.
Free from solvents, isocyanates and PVC, it delivers low odour, low VOC performance and improved worker safety. Once cured, ISR 70-05AP offers outstanding resistance to UV, weathering and ageing, and can be over-painted with many industrial paint systems. With a short open time and fast strength build-up, it helps speed up production processes, reduce clamping time and improve throughput in vehicle body building, trailer manufacturing, marine builds and modular construction.

Key Benefits
-
Structural performance with flexibility – combines high mechanical strength with elastic movement capability to handle vibration, thermal expansion and dynamic loads.
-
Improved safety & compliance – solvent- and isocyanate-free chemistry helps reduce odour and airborne hazards versus many polyurethane systems.
-
Reduced preparation time – strong adhesion to many common substrates, often with only cleaning and the correct Simson prep products rather than fully priming every surface.
-
Durable in harsh conditions – excellent resistance to moisture, UV and ageing provides long-term performance in outdoor and marine environments.
-
Paintable finish – can be over-coated with compatible industrial systems for a neat, colour-matched appearance.
-
Versatile use in one product – suitable as both a structural adhesive and a high-performance sealant, helping to reduce SKU complexity.

Product FAQs
1. What is the difference between ISR 70-05AP and ISR 70-03?
ISR 70-05AP is designed as a high-tensile, advanced-performance structural adhesive/sealant with fast strength build-up, making it ideal for more demanding constructive joints. ISR 70-03 is a flexible MS joint adhesive/sealant with slightly different handling and mechanical characteristics. Always select based on the required strength, movement and open time.
2. Do I need a primer before using ISR 70-05AP?
Many substrates (e.g. steel, aluminium, GRP, painted metals) can be bonded with thorough cleaning and the correct Simson surface prep products (such as Prep M or Prep G Plus). Very low surface-energy plastics or difficult substrates may require special pre-treatment or primers. Always follow the recommendations in the TDS and Bostik’s prep guide.
3. Can ISR 70-05AP be painted?
Yes. After skin formation, ISR 70-05AP can be over-painted with many industrial paint systems. For best results, painting within a few hours of application is recommended and compatibility should always be tested on a small area first.
4. Is ISR 70-05AP suitable for marine and exterior use?
Yes. It provides excellent resistance to moisture, UV and weathering and has been tested for demanding applications such as marine and transport. It is suitable for many exterior joints and bonds when used in accordance with the TDS.
5. How thick should the adhesive bead be?
The TDS generally recommends a bondline thickness of about 2 mm to provide optimal stress distribution and cure performance. Heavier assemblies or very uneven substrates may require spacing or shimming to maintain this thickness.
6. How long does it take to cure before load can be applied?
Skin forms in roughly 10–20 minutes and the adhesive builds strength as it cures (around 3 mm per 24 hours at 23°C / 50% RH). Light handling or repositioning is usually possible after initial strength is reached, but full mechanical performance requires a complete cure. High humidity and moderate temperatures accelerate curing.
7. Is ISR 70-05AP safe to use indoors?
Yes, it is solvent-free and isocyanate-free, with low VOC levels, making it more suitable for indoor use than many traditional PU adhesives. Normal good ventilation and standard PPE (gloves, eye protection) are still recommended.
