Stitched Biaxial Fibreglass Reinforcement for High Strength Composite Laminates

Biaxial Fibreglass Mat is a high performance stitched reinforcement designed for structural composite laminates where strength, efficiency and reliability are critical. Available in 400gsm and 600gsm either per metre or roll, this ±45° biaxial fabric delivers superior load distribution and laminate strength compared to traditional chopped strand mat.

Constructed with continuous fibres stitched in opposing ±45° orientations, this material provides excellent shear strength and multi-directional reinforcement. Unlike chopped strand mat, there is no binder present, allowing for improved resin penetration, faster wet-out and reduced resin consumption. This results in stronger, lighter laminates with better fibre-to-resin ratios.

Biaxial fibreglass is widely used in marine construction, automotive fabrication and industrial composites where structural integrity is essential. It conforms well to curves and complex moulds while maintaining fibre alignment, making it ideal for both new builds and repair work. Use 400gsm for easier handling, ideal for layering and complex shapes while 600gsm is higher strength and faster laminate build-up.

This material is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resin systems, making it a versatile reinforcement option for a wide range of composite applications.

Biaxial Fibreglass Mat 400gsm 600gsm ±45° Structural Cloth FAQs

What is Biaxial Fibreglass Mat used for?

Biaxial Fibreglass Mat is used as a structural reinforcement material in composite laminates, providing high strength, improved load distribution, and enhanced durability in fibreglass and composite constructions.

What does "biaxial" mean in Biaxial Fibreglass Mat?

Biaxial refers to the orientation of the fibres in two directions, typically at ±45 degrees, which helps improve strength, impact resistance, and flexibility across multiple load paths.

What is the difference between 400gsm and 600gsm Biaxial Fibreglass Mat?

600gsm Biaxial Fibreglass Mat provides greater thickness, reinforcement, and structural strength, while 400gsm Biaxial Fibreglass Mat is lighter, easier to handle, and well suited to layered laminate construction.

What resin systems can be used with Biaxial Fibreglass Mat?

Biaxial Fibreglass Mat is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resin systems, making it suitable for a wide range of composite fabrication applications.

Is Biaxial Fibreglass Mat stronger than chopped strand mat?

Yes, Biaxial Fibreglass Mat provides significantly higher strength, stiffness, and structural performance than chopped strand mat due to its continuous fibre orientation and engineered reinforcement design.

Can Biaxial Fibreglass Mat be used on curved surfaces?

Yes, Biaxial Fibreglass Mat conforms well to curves, contours, and complex shapes while maintaining excellent structural integrity, making it suitable for marine, automotive, and composite moulding applications.
